I've been in IT for a long time – far too long in many respects. After a recent company buy-out I got downsized, but I have a six-month life-line that will allow me to pursue a dream I've held for even longer than my time in IT. Writing has been my dream, my unicorn. I find myself in exactly the right place at exactly the right time with both the skill and the opportunity to chase the unicorn, and I have high hopes that I'll be able to catch her. So it begins: a double-or-nothing roll of the dice that may create a brave new future by my own hand or push me over a cliff in the attempt. There an exhilarating freedom in such a proposition and it fills me with both delight and little trepidation, but what would be totally abhorrent to me is the thought of being sixty-five and looking back wishing I'd taken the shot. Sometimes you just have to shoot craps and hope that you break the bank.
